Meet our Team

Kalem Chan Boon

Director

Malo soifua I'm Kalem Chan Boon, and I have had the privilege of serving the New Zealand Police for five years as an Authorised Officer. During my time in the force, I have witnessed firsthand the challenges faced by our Pasifika community, particularly when it comes to the issue of bail and housing stability.

One of the most troubling patterns I've observed is the high number of Pasifika men who end up in prison simply because they lack a suitable address. This issue deeply troubles me, and it has become a driving force behind my passion for creating positive change in our community.

My mission is to address this issue head-on and work towards a future where everyone, regardless of their background or circumstances, has access to stable and suitable housing. I believe that by providing support and resources to our Pasifika community members, we can break the cycle that leads to generational incarceration.

My journey from conviction to redemption is testimony that incarceration is not the end of the road.

Through determination and a relentless pursuit of education we can turn our lives around and use our mistakes as a power tool to rebuild our lives, reconnect with family and contribute to society/ Pasifika community.

My mission at Pivot is to support our Pasifika  men during a most stressful and challenging time in their lives. An opportunity for them to reconnect with their Pacific values, reevaluate their lives and action a plan that inspires Tautua/Service and healing.

It is my dream that the Pivot Tautua experience impacts the lives of men like me, who have made mistakes, but come out of prison and live a productive and meaningful life again.
